Terms and conditions of the TeachyTalk learning platform

This page covers every rule that applies to using TeachyTalk: payments, online classes, cancelling sessions, professional conduct, professional boundaries and the terms on which our services may be used.

  • What the platform is

    TeachyTalk operates as the channel between learner and teacher for holding online classes.

  • Accepting the terms

    Using TeachyTalk means accepting the platform’s terms and conditions and abiding by the most recently updated version of them.

  • Financial terms

    All payments are made through TeachyTalk only; paying directly is prohibited.

  • Rules for holding classes

    All classes must be held through the TeachyTalk platform; holding sessions outside it is not permitted.

  • Professional conduct

    All users — teachers and learners — must show mutual respect, behave professionally and act ethically in every interaction.

  • The platform’s liability

    TeachyTalk is only the channel between teacher and learner and gives no guarantee as to the final learning outcome.

Terms and conditions

1. What the platform is

TeachyTalk is an online language learning platform whose role is to provide the channel between learner and teacher for holding online classes.

The platform is responsible for connection quality, handling payments, scheduling classes and providing a consistent standard of learning experience.

2. Accepting the terms

For teachers and learners alike, using TeachyTalk’s services means:

  • full acceptance of these terms and conditions
  • acceptance of the financial, cancellation, privacy and professional-conduct policies
  • acceptance of future changes to the terms.

3. Financial terms

  • All payments are made only through TeachyTalk’s official system.
  • Paying or being paid directly between teacher and learner is prohibited.
  • Any attempt to bypass the platform’s payment system is treated as a serious breach.

In the event of a breach, TeachyTalk has the right to:

  • block the user’s account.
  • freeze earnings.
  • apply a financial penalty.
  • pursue the matter legally.

4. Rules for holding classes

  • Classes must be held inside the platform only, on the approved and supported tools.
  • Teaching contact outside TeachyTalk is prohibited.
  • Both sides are required to attend the class on time.
  • Internet quality and equipment are the user’s own responsibility.
  • Cancelling or failing to attend without notice can mean the session is forfeited.

5. Rules on professional conduct

All users — teachers and learners — are required to observe the following:
  • mutual respect
  • no insults, threats or discrimination
  • no sending of inappropriate content
  • professional behaviour in classes

Any unprofessional behaviour may lead to the account being restricted or blocked.

6. Contact outside the platform

  • Moving a class and its payment outside the platform is prohibited.
  • Exchanging contact details outside TeachyTalk in order to circumvent how the platform works is prohibited.
  • This covers messaging apps, social networks and direct contact.

7. Cancellations and refunds

  • The rules on cancelling a class are set out transparently in the system for both teacher and learner.
  • Refunds are made in line with the Refund Policy.
  • Not attending without notice normally means the session is lost.

8. Privacy and data

  • Users’ information is kept confidential.
  • Data is used only to improve the service and to keep it secure.
  • Unauthorised use of information, or recording classes, is prohibited.

9. Suspending and blocking an account

An account may be closed in any of the following cases:

  • financial misconduct
  • unprofessional behaviour
  • circumventing how the platform works
  • falsifying information
  • abuse of the discount system or of classes

10. Changes to these terms

TeachyTalk reserves the right to amend, update or change these terms at any time. New versions take effect from the moment they are published, and all users are required to comply with them.
